We are a family business that was born in 2015 in the community of San Luis Bocana Pérez Zeledón, thanks to Don Emilio and Doña Rita, who together with their children have been growing coffee since the mid-nineties. We are dedicated to offering our customers high quality coffee, made with a meticulous and slow artisanal process. When you visit us and enjoy a cup of coffee with us, we want you to feel at home and discover the culture of artisanal coffee from the perspective of an authentic farm family. Tradition and a landscape with the beautiful view of Ballena Bay are the perfect environment to experience coffee production as our grandparents taught it to us at the beginning of the century.
It was in the 1990s when Don Emilio and Doña Rita decided to make coffee production their way of life. With family sacrifice and hard agricultural work, they managed to build the foundations of what we offer today. Don Emilio used to roast small quantities of coffee only for his own consumption, however, thanks to the advice and support of tourists who gradually began to visit our town, a dream that seemed far away slowly began to take shape.
Our brand was born at the moment when a campfire, a pot and the will to start roasting every morning for 6 years came together. We fondly remember that moment when our first customers gave us the labels of the first bags of coffee that we began to offer to visitors. In the same way, we remember those days when we decided to risk selling our coffee at the fairs in Uvita and Bahía or when Deiner, the eldest son, made his first coffee tours. The fruits of these efforts were reflected the day we acquired our first coffee roasting machine, handcrafted by a local resident.
Challenges have undoubtedly been part of our history. The 2020 crisis was a turning point in this business, making us change many of our dream plans and think of new ones. Despite the difficulties, the family team was able to successfully emerge from the crisis and re-emerge again, preserving the same essence that characterized Café Don Emilio from the beginning. The story continues with the integration of Danier and Melisa, the two youngest children, who have sought to support the team and strengthen the foundations of the business.
Our goal has not changed, we continue with the same desire to offer quality coffee to our customers. For this reason, the planting, maintenance, harvesting and processing of each golden grain to take it from a red fruit to a seed ready to grind are key to guaranteeing the quality of the product. We offer products that we lovingly make and deliver to each person who visits us and takes a little bit of us to hundreds of countries around the world.
